WJS UK Revitalises Legacy Water Jet Sweden Machine and Delivers Next-Generation Cutting Technology

Following the installation of a new model NCP Water Jet Sweden Machine, WJS UK recently undertook a full refurbishment of a customer’s existing NC3015 EB, a machine originally commissioned in 2006. With over 22,000 operating hours, the machine was returned to WJS UK’s workshops for a comprehensive overhaul and performance update.

A Familiar System, Now More Powerful

Despite its age, the mechanics of then NC3015 EB remained robust. After thorough cleaning, lubrication, and precision adjustments, WJS UK used the Renishaw Ballbar system to measure the machine’s dynamic performance. With software updates restored the machine was returned to the same specification it had when it first left the factory. The refurbished waterjet machine is now returning to the customer to continue producing high-tolerance aerospace components in titanium, aluminium, and composite materials.

While the EB model delivered excellent productivity with its multiple cutting heads  mounted on the beam, the customer opted for the new NCP model to meet evolving production needs. Featuring automatic repositioning of cutting heads across the X-axis, the NCP offers greater material utilisation, flexibility and faster throughput. Combined with Water Jet Sweden’s Alpha™ technology, the system achieves truly square cuts and sharp corners, capabilities not previously possible with conventional abrasive waterjet technology.

Pre-sales testing highlighted the Alpha™ advantage. An aluminium test piece was cut with less than 0.01mm variation from top to bottom, demonstrating the precision of the technology and allowing a downstream machining operation to be eliminated. Alongside enhanced accuracy, the TVL cutting tool further boosts production speed, delivering measurable improvements in both efficiency and part quality.
