What Is Alphajet® TVL?
Alphajet® TVL is an innovative, high-precision mechatronic system designed to enable fully vertical (perpendicular) cuts in waterjet machining. It builds on a state-of-the-art mechanical configuration: a 45-30-30 mechatronic setup with a fixed TCP (Tool Centre Point) and low rotation point. This means that only subtle, highly precise movements are needed to maintain perfect perpendicularity, even on complex or high-speed cuts.
The system incorporates a trio of intelligent compensation technologies under the “TVL” concept:
TAC (Taper Angle Control)
VOC (Variable Offset Control)
LAG (Lag Control)
These features work together in real time to offset the natural physical effects that typically degrade cut quality during 2D cutting.

The upgrade is compatible with machines operating at 4100 bar or 6200 bar water pressure and typically requires a machine fitted with a 4-axis Fanuc CNC control with PanelOne®. For legacy systems, we can also provide the necessary control upgrades to support Alphajet functionality.
Installation usually takes just two working days, with one additional day for training your operators.
TVL – Technology Explained
Alphajet® TVL integrates three core features that dynamically adjust for the physical behaviours of the waterjet as it interacts with different materials and cutting speeds. Here's how each function enhances cutting accuracy:
TAC – Taper Angle Control
This feature ensures the bottom edge of the cut remains vertical, even when cutting at speed. Without TAC, high-speed waterjet cutting can create a conical cut due to jet tapering. TAC compensates by subtly tilting the jet to maintain a straight, precise edge.
VOC – Variable Offset Control
VOC adjusts the top width (kerf) of the cut in real time based on cutting speed. Since slower speeds remove more material, VOC dynamically changes the jet’s position to maintain consistent part dimensions, even through speed variations.
LAG – Lag Control
As the waterjet penetrates material, it naturally deflects opposite to the cutting direction (called lag). Lag increases at higher speeds. LAG control adjusts the cutting angle so the top and bottom cutting points remain perfectly aligned, ensuring true vertical edges.
